Why Organic Skincare Is Best For You

It’s fair to say that a majority of people have those days when their skin just isn’t looking its best. Whether it’s painful spots, irritating dry patches or just a generally dull complexion, it can be seriously disheartening. The likes of foundation, concealer and BB cream are an absolute godsend on days when you’re in need of a boost, but the reality is that piling on the products really won’t help in the long term.

Often these issues are caused by the very products that you’re using the get rid of the problem; skincare products. These products are often packed with chemicals and it can be impossible to know what could cause irritation, and even harder to avoid it. So what’s the solution? Step forward organic products!

What does Organic even mean?

The term organic is a bit of a buzzword in the beauty industry, with plenty of brands falsely claiming their products are 100% natural or organic, while actually using ingredients or even methods that are anything but. However the benefits from using genuinely organic products mean it’s really worth spending some time researching. When you’re considering a brand, ask yourself these questions:

  • Are all of the ingredients specified on the label? If they are vague or difficult to find, that’s not a good start.
  • Is there one natural ingredient in bold with the rest hidden in tiny font somewhere near the bottom of the label? That’s usually a sign that there are synthetic stabilisers or artificial ingredients present.
  • Can you see a food grade certified organic logo on every single product created by the brand? This is the gold star of organic awards and it means you’re on to a winner.

Why bother?

This might sound like unnecessary hassle, but the advantages really are worth it. The main benefits can easily be seen when you glance in the mirror – organic products are packed with nutrients, vitamins and anti-oxidants that help you to look and feel fabulous.

They’re also much kinder to the environment through the use of organic farming. They often have the added advantage of being cruelty free too, so you can cleanse, tone and moisturise safe in the knowledge that no animals were harmed in the making of the products.

Now you’ve got the products, here are a few extra tips to keep your skin looking great.

Water is Nature’s Elixir

Yes, it’s reiterated far and wide, but with good reason. Water is nature’s elixir and hydrating your body will in turn hydrate your skin and help prevent those persistent dry patches across your face and body.

Hydrated skin also makes pores appear less prominent and means it’s more elasticated, so it’s less likely to crack and let in dirt or impurities which lead to blemishes.

Don’t be Lazy!

After a long day, it can be so tempting to just splash on some lukewarm water to remove your make up or, even worse, not remove it at all. However, spending just a few extra minutes properly removing make up makes a massive difference to your complexion.

For anyone with more oily skin, a toner can really help, while those with a dryer complexion can smother their face in an organic moisturiser to restore the natural pH balance. Added points if you remember to moisturise your body too, so that you feel fabulous from tip to toe!
